Nucleus

A small, self-contained colony of honey bees, comprising a queen, several frames of comb with brood, honey, and pollen, and a population of worker bees. Beekeepers use these starter colonies to establish new hives, strengthen existing ones, or recover from colony losses. A nucleus colony is typically housed in a smaller box than a full-sized hive.
