The fertile female bee in a honey bee colony, responsible for laying all the eggs and thus the reproduction of the hive. She is typically larger than worker bees and drones, and her presence regulates the colony's behavior through pheromones. A healthy queen can lay up to 2,000 eggs per day during peak season.
