Nuclide

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008148

An atom characterized by the specific number of protons and neutrons in its nucleus, and by its nuclear energy state. Each nuclide is uniquely defined by its atomic number (Z), mass number (A), and often its metastable state. For example, carbon-12 and carbon-14 are distinct nuclides of the element carbon.
