Nuclear transformation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008120
A process in which an atomic nucleus changes its composition, resulting in the formation of a different nuclide. This can occur through radioactive decay, where an unstable nucleus spontaneously emits particles or energy, or through nuclear reactions induced by bombardment with other particles. The atomic number or mass number, or both, are altered in such a process.
