Nuclear stopping cross section
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008119
The part of the stopping cross section of a material that arises from energy transfer to the target's atomic nuclei in elastic collisions with an incident ion, equal to the nuclear stopping power divided by the atomic number density of the target. It is expressed in units such as eV cm², and it is small compared with the electronic contribution for fast light ions but dominates for slow heavy ions near the end of their range.
