Nuclear reaction cross section

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008115

A measure of the probability that a specific nuclear reaction will occur when a projectile particle interacts with a target nucleus. It represents an effective area that the target nucleus presents to the incident particle for a particular reaction. This quantity is typically expressed in units of barns (b), where 1 barn equals 10^-28 square meters.
