Capture cross-section
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001614
A measure of the probability that a nucleus will undergo a capture reaction when bombarded by a specific type of particle, such as a neutron. It represents the effective area that a nucleus presents to an incident particle for a capture event to occur. This value is typically expressed in units of barns (b), where 1 barn equals 10^-24 cm^2.
