Activation cross-section

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000178

A measure of the probability that a nuclear reaction will occur when a target nucleus is bombarded by a particle. It quantifies the effective area presented by the nucleus for a specific reaction. This value is expressed in units of area, typically barns (b), where 1 barn equals 10^-24 cm^2.
