Microscopic cross-section

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007355

A measure of the probability that a single nucleus will undergo a specific nuclear reaction when exposed to a beam of particles. It represents the effective area presented by an individual nucleus to an incoming particle for a particular interaction. This quantity is expressed in units of barns (b), where 1 barn equals 10^-28 square meters.
