Collision cross-section
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002220
A measure of the effective area that a particle presents to an incoming projectile for a specific type of collision event. It quantifies the probability of an interaction occurring between two particles. This value has units of area, often expressed in square meters or barns.
