Inelastic scattering cross section
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005814
A measure of the probability that an incident particle, such as an electron or photon, will undergo an inelastic collision with a target atom or molecule, resulting in a loss of kinetic energy. This cross section is dependent on the energy of the incident particle and the electronic structure of the target. It is typically expressed in units of area, such as square centimeters.
