Ionization cross-section
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006123
A measure of the probability that an atom or molecule will be ionized by an incident particle or photon. It represents the effective area that the target presents to the ionizing agent. This quantity is dependent on the energy of the incident particle and the electronic structure of the target, and is typically expressed in units of cm².
