Ionization efficiency
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006124
A figure for electron or photon ionization obtained by dividing the count of ions formed by the count of ionizing electrons or photons used, which depends on the energy of the ionizing particles and on the target molecule. The plot of ion yield against electron or photon energy is the ionization efficiency curve. In analytical practice the phrase is also applied loosely to the fraction of analyte molecules converted to ions in a source.
