Multiphoton ionization

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007651

An ionization process where an atom or molecule absorbs two or more photons simultaneously to achieve ionization. The energy of each individual photon is insufficient to cause ionization on its own. This technique is often used in mass spectrometry for selective ionization of specific species.
