Self-chemical ionization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010705
A chemical ionization process in mass spectrometry where the sample molecules themselves act as both the precursor ions and the reagent gas for ionization. This occurs when the sample is introduced at a relatively high pressure, allowing for ion-molecule reactions between the sample molecules. It is a less common ionization method compared to conventional chemical ionization with an external reagent gas.
