Reagent ion

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009991

An ion formed from a reagent gas that subsequently reacts with an analyte molecule or ion in a mass spectrometer. These ions facilitate the ionization of the analyte through processes like proton transfer or charge exchange. Reagent ions are central to chemical ionization techniques, influencing the fragmentation patterns observed.
