Charge-exchange ionization

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001910

An ionization process in mass spectrometry where a neutral atom or molecule is ionized by colliding with an ion, resulting in the transfer of an electron from the neutral species to the incident ion. This process occurs when the ionization energy of the neutral species is less than the recombination energy of the incident ion. It is a soft ionization method, often producing less fragmentation than electron ionization.
