Dissociation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003321
The process by which a molecule or an ionic compound separates into smaller molecules, atoms, or ions, typically in a reversible manner. This can occur in solution, in the gas phase, or upon heating. For example, a weak acid like acetic acid dissociates partially into acetate ions and protons in water.
