Henderson-Hasselbalch equation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005206

An equation that relates the pH of a buffer solution to the acid dissociation constant (pKa) of the weak acid and the ratio of the concentrations of the conjugate base to the acid. It is derived from the expression for the acid dissociation constant and is widely applied in chemistry and biology to estimate the pH of buffered systems. The equation is most accurate when the pKa of the acid is close to the target pH and the concentrations of the acid and conjugate base are not extremely dilute.
