Conjugate acid-base pair
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002439
A pair of chemical species that differ by the gain or loss of a single proton (H+). The acid in the pair donates a proton to form its conjugate base, while the base accepts a proton to form its conjugate acid. For example, in the reaction of acetic acid with water, CH3COOH is the acid and CH3COO- is its conjugate base.
