Protophilicity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009616
The kinetic tendency of a chemical species to accept a proton (H+) from a Brønsted acid. This property describes the rate at which a base accepts a proton, distinguishing it from thermodynamic basicity, which is related to the equilibrium constant for protonation. Protophilicity is quantified by the rate constant for the proton transfer reaction from a specified reference acid to the base under consideration.
