Ionic dissociation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006110
The decomposition of an ion into an ion of lower mass plus one or more neutral species, as when a molecular ion loses a neutral fragment, in the mass spectrometry sense. In solution chemistry the term also describes the separation of an ionic compound into solvated ions when it is dissolved or melted, a process whose extent is given by the degree of dissociation.
