Bond dissociation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001414

The process by which a chemical bond breaks, separating a molecule into two or more fragments. This can occur either homolytically, forming two radicals, or heterolytically, forming a cation and an anion. The energy required for bond dissociation is a measure of the bond's strength.
