Heterolytic bond-dissociation energy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005255
The energy required to break a specific bond in a molecule such that both electrons from the bond remain with one of the resulting fragments, forming a cation and an anion. This value is typically measured in the gas phase and represents the enthalpy change for the heterolytic cleavage of a bond. It differs from homolytic bond-dissociation energy, which forms radicals.
