Dissociation energy

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003322

The energy required to break a specific chemical bond in a molecule, resulting in the separation of the molecule into its constituent fragments (atoms or radicals). It is defined as the difference in energy between the molecule in its ground state and the separated fragments at rest. This value is typically expressed in kilojoules per mole (kJ/mol) or electronvolts (eV) per molecule.
