Binding energy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001229
The net stabilization energy resulting from the formation of a chemical species in its ground state from a specified set of constituent fragments in their ground states. It represents the energy released when the fragments combine or, conversely, the energy required to break the species into those same fragments. For a molecule, this is the energy needed to separate it into its constituent atoms, measured in units like kilojoules per mole (kJ/mol).
