Valence
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012497
The combining capacity of an atom or a group of atoms, representing the number of chemical bonds it can form. It is determined by the number of electrons an atom can gain, lose, or share to achieve a stable electron configuration. In ionic compounds, valence corresponds to the charge of the ion.
