Even-electron ion

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004133

An ion containing an even number of valence electrons, where all electrons are spin-paired. These ions are formed from neutral molecules by the loss of one electron followed by the loss of a radical, or by the gain of a proton. In mass spectrometry, even-electron ions are generally more stable than their odd-electron counterparts and do not readily fragment by losing a radical.
