Homolysis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005378
The cleavage of a covalent bond in which each of the bonding electrons is retained by one of the fragments, resulting in the formation of two radicals. This process is also known as homolytic cleavage. It is a common mechanism in radical reactions, often initiated by heat or light.
