Charge-mediated fragmentation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001912

A type of fragmentation in mass spectrometry where bond cleavages occur at or near the site of the charge within an ion. The presence of the charge directly influences the stability of bonds and the pathways of dissociation. This is a common fragmentation mechanism for many organic ions, leading to characteristic product ions.
