Dissipation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003320
The irreversible process by which a substance is dispersed, diluted, or transformed within a medium, leading to a reduction in its concentration over time. This includes physical processes like transport and dilution, as well as chemical and biological transformations such as hydrolysis, photolysis, or biodegradation. In environmental toxicology, dissipation rates determine the persistence of a pollutant in soil, water, or air.
