Photophysical processes

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008913

The physical processes that occur in a molecule after it absorbs light, leading to the dissipation of the absorbed energy without chemical change. These include fluorescence, phosphorescence, internal conversion, and intersystem crossing. Such processes are distinct from photochemical reactions, where the absorbed energy results in bond breaking or formation.
