Photophosphorylation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008912
The process by which adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is formed from adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and inorganic phosphate using the energy of light. This occurs in photosynthetic organisms, where light energy drives electron transport chains. The energy released from these electron transfers powers the synthesis of ATP.
