Mitochondria

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007415

Membrane-bound organelles found in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells, often referred to as the 'powerhouses' of the cell. They are responsible for generating most of the cell's supply of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) through cellular respiration. These organelles contain their own small circular DNA and ribosomes.
