Enzymes

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004005

Proteins, or in some cases ribonucleic acid (RNA) molecules, that act as biological catalysts, accelerating the rate of specific biochemical reactions without being consumed in the process. They exhibit high specificity for their substrates and operate under mild conditions of temperature and pH. The catalytic activity of an enzyme is highly dependent on its three-dimensional structure and can be regulated by inhibitors or activators.
