Drug metabolizing enzyme
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003448
An enzyme that modifies xenobiotics, including drugs, through biochemical reactions, altering their activity, solubility, and excretion profile. These enzymes are primarily found in the liver and are responsible for the metabolism of most pharmaceuticals. The cytochrome P450 (CYP) superfamily, such as the CYP3A4 enzyme, is a major class of drug metabolizing enzymes in humans.
