S9 fraction

A supernatant fraction obtained from the centrifugation of homogenized liver tissue, typically at 9000 x g. This preparation contains both microsomal and cytosolic enzymes, which are responsible for metabolizing xenobiotics. It is widely used in in vitro toxicology assays to simulate metabolic activation or detoxification processes occurring in the liver.
