Detoxification
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003090
The metabolic process by which a toxic substance is converted into a less toxic or more readily excretable form within an organism. This biotransformation involves a series of enzymatic reactions, primarily in the liver, that modify the chemical structure of the xenobiotic. These reactions are broadly categorized into Phase I (functionalization) and Phase II (conjugation) pathways.
