Metabolic transformation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007240
The chemical alteration of a substance within a living organism, primarily through enzymatic reactions, to facilitate its excretion or modify its biological activity. This process, also known as biotransformation, converts lipophilic compounds into more polar, water-soluble metabolites. The liver is the primary organ for metabolic transformation, although other tissues also contribute.
