Metabolic activation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007235
The process by which a xenobiotic compound, initially inactive, is converted into a biologically active or toxic metabolite through enzymatic reactions within an organism. This transformation often occurs in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes. The activated metabolite can then exert its pharmacological or toxicological effects.
