Primary metabolite

A compound that is directly involved in the normal growth, development, and reproduction of an organism. These metabolites are produced during the growth phase and are intrinsic to the organism's basic metabolic processes, such as respiration and photosynthesis. Examples include amino acids, organic acids, alcohols, and certain vitamins.
