Antimetabolite

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000691

A substance that structurally resembles a natural metabolite and interferes with its normal metabolic pathways. These compounds often act by competing with the natural substrate for enzyme binding sites or by being incorporated into macromolecules, leading to dysfunctional products. Antimetabolites are frequently used in chemotherapy to inhibit cell growth.
