Transition state analogue
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012239
A stable compound that structurally resembles the transition state of a chemical reaction. These molecules bind more tightly to enzymes than the natural substrate, effectively inhibiting the enzyme's activity. This strong binding occurs because the enzyme has evolved to stabilize the transition state, and the analogue mimics this high-energy intermediate.
