Analogue metabolism
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000542
A biodegradation process in which a compound that is normally not degraded by microorganisms is broken down because a structurally similar compound induces the enzymes needed to attack it. The inducing analogue is usually the growth substrate, and the second compound is transformed by the same enzymes. It is closely related to cometabolism, in which the transformed compound provides the microorganism with no energy or carbon.
