Structure-metabolism relationship
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013601
An association between the chemical structure of a substance and its metabolic fate within an organism, including its absorption, distribution, biotransformation, and excretion. These relationships are used to predict how a novel or untested chemical will be processed by biological systems based on the known metabolism of structurally similar compounds. This predictive approach is a component of toxicological risk assessment, particularly for evaluating potential environmental contaminants.
