Fate
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004357
The ultimate disposition of a chemical substance after its release into the environment. This encompasses all the transport and transformation processes that affect the substance, including its movement between environmental compartments like air, water, and soil, as well as its breakdown through biological or chemical means. Fate and transport models are used to predict the concentration and persistence of contaminants in different environmental media over time.
