Analogue

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000541

A chemical compound that is structurally similar to another but differs by a certain component, such as the variation of an atom, functional group, or substructure. In medicinal chemistry, analogues of a lead compound are synthesized and tested to explore the structure-activity relationship (SAR) and find a molecule with a more favorable biological or pharmacokinetic profile. A bioisostere is a type of analogue where substituents or groups with similar physical or chemical properties are interchanged.
