Silylene
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010870
A neutral, divalent silicon compound with the general formula R2Si, containing a silicon atom with only two bonds and two non-bonding valence electrons. As the silicon analogue of a carbene, it is a highly reactive intermediate that participates in reactions such as insertion into sigma bonds and addition to pi bonds. The parent compound, SiH2, has a singlet ground state, in contrast to the triplet ground state of the parent carbene, CH2.
