Carbene analogues

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001621

Compounds that exhibit similar reactivity and electronic structure to carbenes, but where the divalent carbon atom is replaced by another main group element. Examples include silylenes (silicon analogues) and germylenes (germanium analogues). These species typically possess a lone pair of electrons and an empty p-orbital, making them highly reactive intermediates.
