Borenes

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001440

A traditional name, shared with borylene, for boranylidenes, the carbene analogues R-B: in which a monosubstituted boron atom carries a lone pair and two vacant p orbitals. Boron is formally in the +1 oxidation state and bonded to a single substituent. Borenes are highly reactive, so they occur as transient intermediates or are stabilized by coordination to a transition metal.
